1700 Van Buren Avenue
According to city directories, this house was a very late addition to McCrorey Heights. It first appeared in the directories in 1998, long after most of the neighborhood’s houses which date from the 1950s – 1960s. It was evidently a rental dwelling, with a different occupant listed each year: Chris McPherson in 1998, Damon K. Merritt in 1999, Niecy Bradley in 2000. The first long-term resident seems to have been Novella Massey in the 2010s. The directories did not list occupations for any of these people.
Architecture
Ranch house in tan brick. Low hip roof with a projecting gable-roofed front bay that holds the tall floor-to-ceiling three-part “picture” window. A gable roofed garage, possibly not part of the original design, extends at the north side.
Though this was apparently constructed almost thirty years after most houses in McCrorey Heights, its Ranch style architecture — quite unusual in the 1990s — helps it fit smoothly into the neighborhood.
Located on a sloping corner lot with the front of the house facing Clifton Avenue.
